2008 Secondary One Posting Results Release

The Secondary One (S1) posting results will be released on 18 Dec 2008 at 9:00am. This year, parents will be able to receive the posting results through an additional channel, via Short Messaging System (SMS) text messaging, if they have provided a local mobile phone number during the submission of their child’s school choices.

Parents and pupils will be able to check the S1 posting results via any of the following channels:

1. S1 Internet System
2. Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) (Tel: 6691-2066)
3. SMS via applicant’s mobile number (if provided by applicants during submission of school choices)
4. Going to the child’s primary school

Pupils are to report to the secondary schools that they have been posted to on 19 Dec 2008 at 8:30am.

The results of the 2008 Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) will be released on Thursday, 20 Nov 2008. Pupils may obtain their result slips from their respective schools from 12.00 noon on 20 Nov 2008.

On the same day, eligible pupils will also receive their option forms to select secondary schools from their respective primary schools. Pupils are required to hand the option forms to their parents.

Submission of Secondary One Option Form

In every sealed option form there will be a unique Secondary One Personal Identification Number (S1 PIN) which allows parents to submit the school choices for their child on-line via the Secondary One Internet System (S1-IS). The S1-IS is accessible 24 hours through the MOE Secondary One Posting website at

http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/secondary-one-posting/

starting from 12.00 noon on 20 Nov 2008 to 3.00 pm on 26 Nov 2008.

Parents are strongly encouraged to carefully consider and complete the option form before logging on to the S1-IS, so that they can complete their on-line submission quickly and smoothly.

Alternatively, parents may also submit their child’s secondary school options through their child’s primary school. Submission at the primary schools will be from 12.00 noon to 3.00 pm on 20 Nov 2008; and 9.00 am to 3.00 pm on 21, 24, 25 and 26 Nov 2008.

Release of Secondary One Posting Results

The Secondary One posting results will be released on 18 Dec 2008. This year, parents will be able to receive the posting results through an additional channel, via SMS text messaging. To receive the SMS, parents just need to provide a local mobile phone number during the submission of their child’s school choices, either on-line via the S1-IS or at the child’s primary school.

Parents will thus be able to receive their child’s posting results through any of the following channels:
a. S1-IS (www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/secondary-one-posting/)
b. The Interactive Voice Response System (Tel: 6691-2066)
c. Going to the child’s primary school
d. SMS text messaging

Pupils are to report to their posted secondary schools on 19 Dec 2008 at 8.30 am.

孺廊小学第一次举办义走 Walkathon！

全校同学大清早浩浩荡荡到裕华园进行健走。

同学们边走边观察生态环境。天气炎热，同学们都汗流浃背，手脚有些酸痛。

不过难得有机会与同学、老师及家长一同大步行，大家都不亦乐乎。同学们在义走中也学习了一些花草树木及古代英雄的知识。

新加坡赢得第一届青奥会主办权！

国际奥委会宣布，新加坡终于击败莫斯科，成为2010年第一届青奥会的主办国。总理李显龙和5000多名国人在政府大厦草场见证了这历史性的一刻。

在新加坡时间傍晚7点左右，国际奥委会主席罗格宣布了成功获得2010年青奥运主办权的城市。

之前就已经一片沸腾的政府大厦草场，气氛顿时飙升到最高点。到场的5000多名国人也兴奋地拥抱相贺。李显龙总理在兴奋之余，也不忘感谢国人，过去几个月来的努力，一起携手把梦想实现。

总理李显龙说，“奥运会的火焰将首次来到东南亚、来到新加坡。我们将着重体育方面的发展，包括我国、东南亚和奥运会。我们勇于梦想，也努力去实现。我们克服了困难，现在梦想成真了！”

现场的公众也对我国申办成功，感到雀跃万分。

首届青奥运将在2010年8月举行。到时预料会有来自世界各地的多达5000名，年龄介于动14岁到18岁的运动员到新加坡参赛。

Visit to Bibo Experimental Primary School in Suzhou, China 孺廊小学老师访问苏州碧波实验小学

在6月学校假期里，关老师和副校长 Ms Ho，Mr Chan，Mr Choo 及 Ms Ang 一起到孺廊小学的姐妹学校——中国苏州的碧波实验小学进行访问。

碧波实验小学的副校长，毛校长热情地欢迎我们。我们参观了学校，也到课室看看上课的情形，真是令我们大开眼界！毛校长也为我们安排了苏州一日游。我们到苏州的园林和庙宇参观，增长见闻。

这次的访问让我们获益不浅。最难得的是，我们向碧波小学学习了机器人教学的心得。期待未来孺廊和碧波继续交流与合作！

During the June holidays, our Vice Principal, Ms Ho, together with Mr Chan, Mr Choo, Miss Ang and myself visited Bibo Experimental Primary School, Rulang's Sister School in Suzhou, China.

Bibo's Vice Principal, Mdm Mao welcomed us warmly. We had a tour around the school and observed a few interesting lessons. We were very impressed by what we saw. Mdm Mao also arranged a tour around Suzhou and we had a great time visiting the various gardens and temples.

On the whole, it was an educational and eventful trip. Most importantly, we learnt a lot about Bibo's Robotics curriculum. We look forward to collaborating with them in the near future!

农历五月初五是端午节，大家对这个节日了解多少呢？

战国时代，有一个很爱国的诗人，名叫屈原，他因为不忍心看到他的国家被别人占领，于是便跳下江河里自杀死了。爱护他的人为了不让他的尸体被鱼虾吃掉，便将煮熟的米饭用叶子包起来，然后丢进江水中喂那些鱼虾。后来，吃粽子就成了端午节的习俗了。

虽然在市场上有各种口味的粽子，买回家热一热就可以吃了，但是欢乐博士认为妈妈包的粽子永远都是最好吃的。小朋友，你知道怎么包粽子吗？

包粽子可不简单呢！我们得要先清洗叶子和糯米(nùo mǐ，Glutinous rice)，然后要炒馅料(xiàn liào ，Stuffing)，最后才是包粽子，每一步都是很花时间的。单是准备馅料就要花两个小时呢！用叶子将糯米和馅料包起来，粽子的形状还要包得好，至少要像个三角形，这是不简单的。但是，一旦学会了包粽子的功夫，你会觉得乐趣无穷！

自己动手包粽子的一个好处是省钱。市面上卖的粽子一个要好几块钱，可是自己包粽子只要花30元左右买材料，可以包上20个肉粽呢，一个不过七毛钱！

父亲节的由来

人们在庆祝母亲节的同时，并没有忘记父亲的功绩。早在1909年，住在华盛顿的 John B.Dodd 夫人，便首次提出父亲节的想法。

当时，她希望有一个特别的日子，来向她的父亲 William Smart 先生表达敬意。William Smart 先生是一个参加过南北战争的老兵。他的妻子，也就是 John B.Dodd 夫人的母亲，在生第六个孩子时不幸去世。 William Smart 先生自此成了鳏夫。在华盛顿东部的一个乡村农场中，他独自一人抚养大了这个新生儿和其他五个孩子。

直到成年以后，John B.Dodd 夫人才意识到，她的父亲在养育儿女的过程中所付出的坚强和无私。于是给当地一家教士协会写信，建议把6 月的第三个星期日定为父亲节。该协会将建议提交会员讨论，获得了通过。1910年6月19日，华盛顿 Spokane 镇的人们庆祝了首个父亲节。当时，凡是父亲已故的人都佩戴一朵白玫瑰，父亲在世的人则佩戴红玫瑰。这种习俗一直流传至今。但是开始时父亲节的日期各不相同，而且有的地方用蒲公英作为父亲节的象征，有的地方则用衬有一片绿叶的白丁香作为父亲节的象征。直到1924年，在美国总统 Calvin Coolidge 的支持下，父亲节成为全国性的节日。1966年，Lyndon Johnson 总统签署总统令，宣布将每年6月的第3个星期天定为父亲节。

母亲节

古代的母亲节起源于希腊 (Greece)，古希腊人在这一天向希腊神话中的众神之母赫拉致敬。在17世纪中叶，母亲节流传到英国，英国人把封斋期的第四个星期天作为母亲节。在这一天里，出门在外的年青人将回到家中，给他们的母亲带上一些小礼物。

现代意义上的母亲节起源于美国，由Amanm、Jarvis（1864－1948）发起，她终身未婚，一直陪伴在她母亲身边，她母亲于1905年逝世， Amanm 悲痛欲绝，两年后（1907年），Amanm 和她的朋友开始写信给有影响的部长、商人、议员来寻求支持，以便让母亲节成为一个法定的节日。Amanm 认为子女经常忽视了对母亲的感情，她希望母亲节能够让人多想一想母亲为家庭所付出的一切。

第一个母亲节于1908年5月10 日在西弗吉尼亚和宾夕法尼亚州举行，在这次节日里，康乃馨被选中为献给母亲的花，并以此流传下来。

1914年5月7日，美国国会通过决议，规定每年5月的第二个星期日为母亲节，由威尔逊总统5月9日颁布施行。自此之后，母亲节即成为美国全国性的节日。

Hi Rulangnites,

You might be surprised to see this posting in English. Yes, it's me, Mr Kwan, 关老师.

I have decided to post this in English because many Rulangnites are more comfortable with English. Hence, please bear with my less than perfect English for the next few minutes.

I guess some of you have your own personal blogs. It's just like writing a diary online. You write about your everyday school happenings, the things you like, you dislike, or just anything under the sun. I think blogging is fun and interesting, isn't it?

So you might ask,"What is Mr Kwan trying to tell us?"

Actually, the purpose of this posting is to share with you something about being a responsible blogger.

So what do I mean by being a responsible blogger?

In short, it is about being a blogger who is responsible of what he/she blogs. In other words, a responsible blogger must answer for everything he/she writes in blogs.

How can you become a responsible blogger? Here are some advice:

1) Whatever you post in your blog, it is read by the WHOLE WORLD. That includes your friends, relatives, teachers and even people who don't know you.

Therefore, please mind the language and content of your blog at all times. To date, there are already a couple of Singapore bloggers who are put to jail because they posted racist messages in their blogs. So Rulangnites, do not post rude and insensitive messages in blogs.

2) Plagiarism (copying from others) in blogging is a common problem. We all know we can easily obtain information from the Internet, but we must not copy works from others. We should be original and create blogs which are distinctive and creative.

3) Many blogs allow commenting and contain tagboards (or shoutboxes). I have seen pupils posting silly comments and rude messages in their friends' blogs. I have also noticed some pupils flooding tagboards with meaningless messages and even arguing in blogs! That is not right. It's a complete waste of time to get into disputes online. We should be gracious blog readers and morally upright bloggers.

Alright Rulangnites, that's all from Mr Kwan. Heed my advice and I believe we can make blogging a fun and enjoyable learning experience!

关老师的周记 - 2007年课外活动营（CCA Clinic）

大家好，我是关老师。我也来写周记！

一个星期的假期过得实在快。一转眼今天已经是星期五了。很快就要开学咯！

关老师的假期过得相当充实。假期的星期一和星期二，我到学校参与了课外活动营（CCA Clinic）。星期一早上同学们进行类似 Amazing Race 的活动。同学们不只玩得不亦（yì）乐乎，还培养了团体精神（Team work）。

星期一下午，同学们进行了制作三明治比赛！同学们七手八脚地制作三明治，好有趣哦！关老师负责的组全都是男生。不过别小看他们，他们可是小小厨师！结果还得了第二名！太了不起了。老师都对同学们制作三明治赞不绝口，关老师还吃得津津有味呢！

三明治比赛后，Mr Zul 安排了拔河比赛（Tug-of-War）！参赛同学们用尽全力拚命地拉呀拉，在一旁的同学则大声地为他们打气。最后，获胜的那组还和老师比赛。老师们费了九牛二虎之力，最终还是败下阵来。同学们太强壮了！老师们老了，甘拜下风。哈哈。

课外活动营的第二天早上，同学们尝试了一些不属于自己课外活动。同学们都觉得这项活动是个全新的体验。此外，同学们也了解其他课外活动并不是他们想象中那么容易。如果没有团队精神是不可能取得胜利的。

课外活动营的第二天的下午，关老师因为有事所以没办法和同学一起去 Health Promotion Board。那儿好玩吗？学到了些什么？谁能告诉关老师？

举办课外活动营的目的就是让学生学到团结就是力量的道理。当关老师看到同学们互相帮助，一起合作完成任务时，关老师相信同学们已经学到了这个道理。加油哦！
